Thanks to all who came out and said good-bye to Inga last week! She is back home safe with her parents. Last week when Jack let her mom know that we were planning a ride by goodbye....this is what she said.
Dear Jack,
You made me crying, It is great to see how wonderful all you are and it breaks my heart taking Inga away so early. It just does not feel right. I wish the circumstances would be different and I can only hope they will be soon normal and we can meet and catch up the lost time. Please pass our warm regards and big thanks to all of the Rotary members, we are grateful for all you gave to Inga, especially in this difficult time. We feel privilege that Inga could be part of your community. We will stay in touch, her exchange year should not end this way. You are all very welcome to visit us in Germany and we hope that we can see you all soon again - to hug you all without distancing.
The virus obviously has also many positive sites, we realize how small the world is, how fragile we are and how important the other person is. We hope that we all will sort the values correctly and that in the future we all will have the right priorities. The Rotary has them definitely!
We wish you all to stay save over the next time, we will keep in touch. Take care and stay healthy!
THANK YOU JACK!
Izabela
PS. Of course I will let you know as soon as I get Inga at the airport. We will have to spent 2 weeks at home in quarantine, so I hope to get all possible details of her exchange.
We will have very strange Easter holidays, because Helge cannot share with us the quarantine time. So this will be very internet-driven holidays. As probably for the most of the world.
In these challenging times there is still so much good going on and I wanted to share a few Foundation updates.
At PETS this year, our Presidents in training and attendees raised over $10,000 across seven districts to purchase new textbooks for the girls attending the Zabuli Education Center in Afghanistan. The funds raised allow Razia Jan and the school to continue its mission of educating girls. It may feel a lot longer than a month since PETS but attached is a picture of the girls who have received their new textbooks. They are maintaining proper social distancing, but even Covid-19 will not stop these determined students from getting an education!
Our District Disaster Response Grants were submitted to Rotary International this morning. Expect to hear an update from us once we hear back from RI. (since Josh sent this email...we received word that District 6250 grants did not receive any money because it was already gone by the time the foundation got our proposals. However, Rotary Foundation is adding another $2,000,000 and we will stay in line for this new money. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that our communities benefit from these generous grants.)
Disaster Response Project highlights include:
· Food, meals and supplies for those most vulnerable in our communities
· Diapers, supplies and learning tools for young families and students in these uncertain times
· Support for our front-line health care workers
· 3D printing & manufacturing of personal protective equipment
· UV sanitizing lights for first responders
· Handheld devices to allow patients quarantined in the hospitals to communicate face to face with loved ones
This is on top of the multitude of projects that our Rotarians are partnering on and assisting with in their communities on a daily basis.
There are many challenges for Rotarians to be hands on in the traditional sense, particularly those who are high risk. Rotarians continue to find ways to be Leaders of Action in our communities by:
· Purchasing, packing and delivering much needed items
· Serving in leadership roles on boards of community organizations and foundations
· Fundraising & raising awareness of the needs in our community
· Serving in shelters and pantries
· Creation of personal protective equipment
· Planning and arranging resources
· Writing cards/notes to families and those on the front lines
· Continuing long term partnerships and innovating new ones
· Living out the ideals of Rotary and the 4 way test during this crisis
The Foundation team continues to work on additional guidance around District Grants which will be sent out as soon as it’s ready. We appreciate your patience as we try to make this process as simple and straightforward as possible.
With social distancing practices taking place, it can be hard to engage and build momentum. As Rotarians we are part of the Rotary family- throughout our community and our region. Distance should not be a barrier but an opportunity to innovate the impact we can make as we serve each other and our communities.
We will get through this together. Be steady. Be well!
Benefits of sponsoring an ad on the Rotary Club of La Crosse web site: Enhance your business' public relations and image. Advertise an upcoming event. Opportunity to sponsor and support the Rotary Club of La Crosse and your community. Sharing with fellow Rotarians in our club and other local clubs who would like to know what you do.
Why advertise on the Rotary Club of La Crosse web site? The majority of visitors to our website are members and friends of our club. This makes our site's web sponsorship an ideal opportunity for small and large businesses to promote their products, services or an upcoming event in our community. Moreover 100% of the advertising revenue goes back to our club; this in turn supports the local community.
Cost is $20 per month up to $120 per year . . . . click here for form and more information. We will include your logo/link on our web site, send one email blast to all Rotarians and include an initial mention in our newsletter and on our Facebook page.

Non-perishable foods are running dangerously low at The Hunger Task Force, and with the postponement of the National Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive, they are in desperate need of canned goods for the programs they serve. Canned items needed include meats (tuna, chicken), peanut butter, soup, fruit, boxed side dishes (stuffing, rices, potatoes), breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, etc), canned ravioli & spaghettios, pasta & pasta sauce. We believe that everyone deserves to have access to food and essentials, especially in times of uncertainty.
We received the following email from the Salvation Army:
During these uncertain times with the COVID-19 virus, policies and procedures continue to change but The Salvation Army continues to help those who are affected by the impact this pandemic has caused.
Beginning Wednesday, April 8th: The Salvation Army of La Crosse County will begin delivering packaged meals, food baskets, and blankets to members in our county affected by the COVID-19 virus to help continue Doing the Most Good in our community.
Deliveries will take place 7 days a week to remote locations during lunchtime hours (11am - 2pm) to be determined by The Salvation Army by Wednesday. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the delivery of these items to our community. The Salvation Army is following all CDC guidelines to ensure everyone's well-being and masks will be provided as needed.
Volunteers interested in assisting with deliveries of these items can contact Volunteer Coordinator Alex Riley at alex.riley@usc.salvationarmy.org
