The St. Clare Health Mission has provided health and medical services to those in need, the poor, the immigrants and homeless, since its inception in 1998.  Founded by Sr. Clare Beres, the Health Mission is a collaboration between Mayo Health Systems, Gundersen Health System and the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.  Almost 20,000 people have used the health mission since it was founded with over 100,000 repeat visits.

The program for Thursday, January 7th will be provided by the Executive Director, Jason Larsen, who also serves as the current president of the Rotary Club of La Crosse-East.  He will share the story of the St. Clare Health Mission and will, with the assistance of Steve O’Malley and Dean Dickinson, rollout a new collaborative initiative between St. Clare and the nine area Rotary Clubs that will provide an outreach opportunity to those in need of medical services.

THANK YOU ROTARIANS

Dear Rotary Club members,

On behalf of the students, teachers and families of the School of Technology and Arts II (SOTA II), I would like to thank you for your generous donation of $500 towards our fundraising goal. The money will be used to purchase Apple Pencil stylus for each of the students and teachers at the the school. SOTA II is a middle school (6th, 7th and 8th grade) charter within the school district of La Crosse. At full enrollment the school is 45 students in a multi-aged classroom setting. The mission of SOTA II is to integrate the arts and technology in the delivery of the core curriculum. Studies have linked learning of an art form to increased student motivation and the ability to learn other skills like reading, mathematics, and writing. It also showed correlation between active involvement in the arts to positive outcomes such as increased student participation in community service and appreciation of cultural differences. Similar research indicated that a wide range of computer technologies supported the development of advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students. The idea to purchase the Apple Pencils was taken from the teachers wish list. The teachers wanted to give the students a device that should be in every artist’s electronic tool box. The COVID-19 pandemic has strained everyone's budgets and the need for financial support has never been greater. I feel very fortunate that your group believes enough in the SOTA II mission to support our efforts.

Sincerely, John VonRuden| SOTA II Inc, Treasurer

We also received a thank you from the Gateway Area Council......CLICK here to view thank you and holiday photo card.

I want to thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, emails, cards, memorials, gifts, food and for helping me through the loss of my mother, Rosemarie Herlitzke.  Memorials will be given to The Parenting Place and the Children's Museum... she would be so happy knowing she is helping families in the community.  I was fortunate that Bluffview Memory Care allowed me to be at her side for her final hours.  Thank you to those that helped me through this five-year journey with her....your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.     Heartfelt thanks,  Lyn Sheffer

VENMO

How do I use Venmo?

Are you getting fined during Rotarians in the News?
You can now pay your fines by using Venmo.

It's easy!  Click here to learn more.

Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. Venmo account holders can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app; both the sender and receiver have to live in the U.S. Venmo is a type of payment rail. It handled $12 billion in transactions in the first quarter of 2018.

Since 2008, cash transfers using Venmo were not instantaneous and could be canceled after an initial transfer is sent. Like traditional wire transfer they can take one to three business days to become final. In January 2018,PayPal rolled out an instant transfer feature on Venmo, allowing users to deposit funds to their debit cards typically within 30 minutes. A 1% fee is deducted from the amount for each transfer, while the standard bank transfer (typically completed within 1–3 business days) is available for no fee.

Download the App to your mobile device today!

Our account is Rotary Club of La Crosse (@RotaryClub-LaCrosse) - last four digits of our phone number is 4491.

Here's a few tips to help ensure you're using Venmo safely:
  • Change your “payment activity” privacy setting to “private.” Here’s how. (Having your transactions set to “Public” will allow others to see when you make payments through Venmo, as well as the description you attach to each one.)
  • Consider setting up a separate online checking account just to fund Venmo payments (rather than linking it to your primary checking account). If you link it to a credit card, you incur a 3% fee.
  • Never store large amounts of money in your Venmo balance. Immediately transfer Venmo transactions to linked bank accounts.
  • Don’t use the app on public wifi.
  • Set up your Venmo app to require a passcode, PIN, or fingerprint before making a payment.
  • Only use Venmo to send and receive money from friends and family you know and trust. Don't use it to buy something from an online marketplace, to send money to someone you don't know, or someone claiming to be from a government agency.
  • Only accept payments from people you know and trust (there’s a scam where people send you money “by accident” - read more here.)

Associate Membership is a program to recruit younger members, millennials, to membership.  Associate Membership is available to anyone who is proposed for membership who is 35 years of age or less.  Associate membership will end when that member reaches the age of 38. They would pay for dues and $100 for meals per quarter no matter how many meetings they attend that quarter.

Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.

Family Membership is a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership.  View Family Membership Policy.

Honorary Membership  is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors.   View Honorary Membership Policy.

Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance  and the board has approved.  Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
