This presentation will provide an overview of the ALS Association, it’s mission, goals and work in Wisconsin including care services programs available to families living with ALS.
Carrie lives in Verona, Wisconsin with her husband and 2 daughters Maddie (13), Hannah (11) and 2 dogs. Carrie has spent the last 21 years in the non-profit development space, serving in a variety of advancing leadership roles. She made the move to the ALS Association in early 2023 as a Director of Development, after losing her father to ALS and later her uncle and grandmother. She was recently promoted to Managing Director of Development for the Midwest region where she oversees 20 staff across 11 states.
Last Week: Rotary International Convention Highlights
The Rotary International Convention is where you’ll find people of action from around the world brainstorming solutions to some of the most pressing challenges and celebrating our works of service that create lasting change. This year's convention was held in Singapore. Mark and Sharon Jolivette and Todd and Eva Marie Restel attended from our club. They will present highlight from the convention and enlighten us on what we can expect to see through Rotary in the future.

Sharon Imes Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, August 18th from 2-6pm at Myrick Park. Sharon passed away earlier this year. She was our Club President in 1992-1993 and our district's first female District Governor. CLICK HERE for the obituary.

Feel free to wear anything loud and fun on August 22nd: Hawaiian shirts and blouses, floral anything, muumuus that have been hanging in your closets, loud ties, etc. Let's celebrate the approaching end of summer with our day of joyful style.
And yes, we are meeting on Aug. 22nd, even though the Avenues of Service event is the same week.

We are asking you to consider hosting guest from either the Philippines in September or Croatia in October. Host provide a place for guest to sleep and a light breakfast. As a host, you are welcome to participate in the daily activities planned for our guest, but are not obligated to do so. Al's Musky Challenge Kicks Off
Al’s Musky Challenge is a Rotary Beneficiaries Club of La Crosse Project that provides opportunity and support
to youth throughout the Coulee Region!
From July 25 through September 30, Rotarian Al Louis will be fishing Lake Vermilion in Northern Minnesota. This Summer, Al will fish with his fishing partners, both named A.J., as well as multiple sponsor guests and fellow Rotarians.
2024 recipients are the Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse and the Family and Children's Center.

Emily Onsager is doing the Alzheimer’s walk and starting a team. The Walk is Saturday, September 21st.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Emily's dad passed away at 76 from the disease. Maybe there are others effected by this disease who want to join Emily or donate to this cause.

As ShelterBox approaches our 25th year in global disaster relief, we would like to invite your members and associates to our “ShelterBox All-Hands Rotary Roundup”, on Wednesday August 28th at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET via Zoom.
This 30-minute session will focus on the power of our partnership with Rotary and will feature ShelterBox USA President, Kerri Murray, a member of the Rotary Club of Montecito, Ca. and ShelterBox Response Team member, Brian Glenn, from the Rotary Club of Denton-Lake Cities, Texas.
Kerri and Brian will outline how Rotarians fill integral roles throughout the disaster response process. They will focus on the collaborative efforts of ShelterBox and Rotary in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Morocco. There will also be updates on our disaster relief efforts in the Caribbean and elsewhere.
From fundraising and networking to field support, our mission relies heavily on the dedication of Rotary members from all over the world. We hope you will join us to learn about the partnership and how you can be involved.

“Birth asphyxia, or the failure to breathe at birth, kills an estimated 900,000 infants
globally each year. Although it accounts for less than 0.1% of newborn deaths in
industrialized countries, it’s the leading cause of neonatal mortality in low- and middle-income countries, like Sierra Leone. Many newborns who aren’t breathing can be saved if rural health care workers learn how to operate the self-inflating resuscitator. A self-inflating resuscitator sells for about US$11. Since 2022, Rotary members in Sierra Leone and North America have collaborated to offer the Helping Babies Breathe protocol to more than 650 nurses, midwives, and other health workers from all over Sierra Leone. The program was funded through a global grant co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Sybil Bailor, the club’s 2023-24 president, was committed to the program in part because of her own experience. She once had a difficult delivery, during which her baby struggled to get oxygen. Bailor collaborated on the grant application with Charlotte Israel, 2023-24 president of the Rotary Club of Palm Harbor, Florida, USA. Israel and Bailor’s clubs used The Rotary Foundation grant to purchase 160 NeoNatalies and other supplies. The trainees practiced with self-inflating resuscitation devices and used plastic bottles (known as “penguins” because of their shape) to learn to suction fluid from infants’ noses and mouths.”
