LAST WEEK AT ROTARY

A musical to warm the heart! Dean Dickinson and Katie Berkedal brought our club the annual Rotary Holiday Program! This virtual reality was terrific, with the help of our members' children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and others who were willing to share their holiday spirit through their musical gifts. Enjoy the show!

FRUIT BOX FUNDRAISER
Thank you for your donations to our fruit box fundraiser.   As you know the fruit box fundraiser is our club's largest annual fundraiser and each year brings in much-needed unrestricted funds that are necessary for the club's operating expenses (last year $21,000!!), in addition to helping us support club projects like this year's Razia's Bus fundraiser.  Your donations will help us to continue to do good work in the community!!  Your donations have totaled $9,000!!

For every $100 dollar donation you are entitled to either three silver Rotary coins or seven bronze Rotary coins.  If you are interested in receiving these coins please contact Al Louis to arrange a time to pick them up.... al@djrcllc.com

If you have not made a donation, it is NOT too late, you can submit payment online here, or mail a check to: PO BOX 1914, LACROSSE, WI 54601.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION SITE PAGE
A top priority for Rotary is growing and diversifying our membership to make sure we reflect the communities we serve and are inclusive of all cultures, experiences, and identities. We're creating an organization that is more open and inclusive, fair to all, builds goodwill, and benefits our communities.

The Rotary Club of La Crosse - Downtown has formed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee to discuss all things DEI.

Check out their SITE PAGE on our web site.

ROTARY LEADERSHIP SERIES SITE PAGE
The Leadership Series had another successful presentation with Jeff Thompson, MD as the speaker.  If you were not able to attend, check out our Leadership Series Site Page!  You will find the video of his presentation and all of our past Leadership Series presentations.

The Rotary Leadership series involves featured speakers providing insight and information about various aspects of leadership.  The events are scheduled in a virtual format on the second Thursday of the month on an alternating schedule with the STAR program.  7:00-8:00 am.   The Rotary Leadership Series is designed for the members of the nine La Crosse-area Rotary clubs. Members may invite guests.

Our next Leadership Series will be February 11th

VENMO

How do I use Venmo?

Are you getting fined during Rotarians in the News?
You can now pay your fines by using Venmo.

It's easy!  Click here to learn more.

Venmo is a mobile payment service owned by PayPal. Venmo account holders can transfer funds to others via a mobile phone app; both the sender and receiver have to live in the U.S. Venmo is a type of payment rail. It handled $12 billion in transactions in the first quarter of 2018.

Since 2008, cash transfers using Venmo were not instantaneous and could be canceled after an initial transfer is sent. Like traditional wire transfer they can take one to three business days to become final. In January 2018,PayPal rolled out an instant transfer feature on Venmo, allowing users to deposit funds to their debit cards typically within 30 minutes. A 1% fee is deducted from the amount for each transfer, while the standard bank transfer (typically completed within 1–3 business days) is available for no fee.

Download the App to your mobile device today!

Our account is Rotary Club of La Crosse (@RotaryClub-LaCrosse) - last four digits of our phone number is 4491.

Here's a few tips to help ensure you're using Venmo safely:
  • Change your “payment activity” privacy setting to “private.” Here’s how. (Having your transactions set to “Public” will allow others to see when you make payments through Venmo, as well as the description you attach to each one.)
  • Consider setting up a separate online checking account just to fund Venmo payments (rather than linking it to your primary checking account). If you link it to a credit card, you incur a 3% fee.
  • Never store large amounts of money in your Venmo balance. Immediately transfer Venmo transactions to linked bank accounts.
  • Don’t use the app on public wifi.
  • Set up your Venmo app to require a passcode, PIN, or fingerprint before making a payment.
  • Only use Venmo to send and receive money from friends and family you know and trust. Don't use it to buy something from an online marketplace, to send money to someone you don't know, or someone claiming to be from a government agency.
  • Only accept payments from people you know and trust (there’s a scam where people send you money “by accident” - read more here.)

Associate Membership is a program to recruit younger members, millennials, to membership.  Associate Membership is available to anyone who is proposed for membership who is 35 years of age or less.  Associate membership will end when that member reaches the age of 38. They would pay for dues and $100 for meals per quarter no matter how many meetings they attend that quarter.

Corporate Membership is a program to allow multiple employees of a business Rotary participation under one primary membership. Each corporate membership is limited to a three-year term. After the three-year corporate membership term, the individuals are required to become individual members. View Corporate Membership Policy.

Family Membership is a program to allow a second individual Rotary participation under one primary membership.  View Family Membership Policy.

Honorary Membership  is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.Unlike other membership categories that can be requested by the member, Honorary Membership is bestowed upon a member by election from the Board of Directors.   View Honorary Membership Policy.

Excused Membership is offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance  and the board has approved.  Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues and only for meals when they attend a meeting.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
