From June 6th through October 6th, Rotarian Al Louis has be fishing Lake Vermilion in Northern Minnesota.
Did you know? In general it takes about 10,000 casts to catch one musky! 2022 was a record year with 54 musky caught in the boat while previous years only yielded 7-8. What did 2023 yeild?
Al challengs fellow Rotarians and community members to contribute to the annual event by a flat dollar pledge or a pledge per fish caught in the boat.
Today we hear the results! Checks will be presented to the 2023 recipients of the funds raised.
The 2023 recipients (Good Fight Community Center, La Crosse Public Education Foundation, and Hope Restores) will all present to receive their donation and speak about how those funds will be used in the community.

For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.

STAR Meeting - November 14th at Noon
Our next STAR Meeting will be Tuesday, November 14 from 12-1pm. Location: Rotary Office in the Capella on Cass, 432 Cass Street (parking in the back; enter through back door) Hosted by Jodi Widuch, Todd Restel, and Jamie O'Neill.
STAR - Specialized Training for Action in Rotary....you will meet other new Rotarians from the area. We will provide programs on the Avenue of Service, The Rotary Foundation, and the Rotary Works Foundation, along with other aspects of Rotary. This is a great time to ask questions you may have about our club or Rotary in general. Hope you will be able to join us.

Please keep Trish Grathen in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery....Trish was in an accident while vacationing in Florida earlier this month. She broke both her elbows, had surgery, and now has both arms in casts. According to our source, Trish remains upbeat and will remain in Florida until the last week of November when she is able to fly again. Send Trish good thoughts HERE!

Week 2 of RI’s Foundation Month.
This week’s FM is from the message of TRF’s Trustee Chair, Barry Rassin published in the latest edition of Rotary Magazine. In a nutshell, Rassin celebrates “The Rotary Foundation: one of the world’s best humanitarian organizations,” and highlights “the magnitude of our impact.”
“…we have a lot of work in progress through the Foundation. Polio eradication is changing the world, one drop of vaccine at a time. Rotary Peace Centers are training peacebuilders to reduce violence and resolve conflict. And through Foundation global and district grants, we are improving lives in a real way. The way we work also sets us apart. We have global reach, with more than 48,000 field offices in the form of Rotary and Rotaract clubs. We emphasize good stewardship of your funds and efficient implementation of your projects. And we always aim for sustainable solutions. During the 2022-23 Rotary year, the Foundation awarded 1098 Global Grants…Our district supported a Global Grant project that focused on basic education and literacy in Malawi, where we helped train 38 teachers who are responsible for 4,000 students. We also built two toilets and installed a pump, so they had water for drinking and hand washing…When Esther and I visited the school, a young boy pointed to my Rotary pin, recognizing it from other volunteers who wore their pins during the project. He said, ‘I know you helped me. I won’t be able to travel to thank the others who helped me, so please thank them for me.’ So, thank you, Rotary, on behalf of a child in Malawi whose future you made a little brighter, and on behalf of thousands of others you have helped by supporting The Rotary Foundation.”
