If one of the reason’s that you enjoy being a Rotarian is the fun Thursday meetings, then you definitely do not want to miss the meeting this week. This meeting will involve dozens of Rotarians who have been practicing and preparing for over two months so that they can shine this Thursday at noon. As Rotarians, not only do we have fun, but we make a difference too.
Last week’s meeting was yet another highlight of what Rotarians can do for a community. From that perspective, please consider inviting a potential Rotarian to one of meetings in the near future. We will be celebrating our 100th anniversary in June. My goal is to have ten more Rotarians by the time we celebrate our actual anniversary. Remember, we have money set aside to cover the cost of your guests’ meals.
A work event will take me out of town this week. Therefore, instead of me providing TED talks and other relevant links to you this week, why don’t you email me your favorites and I will work to start sharing items that our club members have found meaningful. Different viewpoints and diverse input is ultimately what helps us to continue to learn and change in positive ways.
You don't want to miss this week's Rotary meeting! We have a great show, er, meeting, planned for you. Eight Rotarians will showcase their talents - competing for your vote! Bring your dollars for voting; the winning act will determine which Rotary Foundation fund will receive the money collected. Will there be pyrotechnics? Will there be live animals? You might be shocked at what hidden talents we'll reveal...
This week at Rotary is also our annual meeting. We will be voting on our Rotary Board and Rotary Works Board reps for 2019-20. See link.
We now have a bulletin board in the foyer of the Radisson Center to promote your business or event. Each week you can place a flyer on this board and also leave flyers/brochures on the table beneath the bulletin board. The board will be cleaned off after each meeting. Please pick up your flyers/brochures after each meeting otherwise they will be thrown away.
We do not have time for braggers and squealers each week so this will be your opportunity to promote your business or upcoming event at no charge.
Another way is to pay for a web site sponsorship. Details of that opportunity to get the word out about your business or upcoming event is in the article below.
Benefits of sponsoring an ad on the Rotary Club of La Crosse web site: Enhance your business' public relations and image. Advertise an upcoming event. Opportunity to sponsor and support the Rotary Club of La Crosse and your community. Sharing with fellow Rotarians in our club and other local clubs who would like to know what you do.
Why advertise on the Rotary Club of La Crosse web site? The majority of visitors to our website are members and friends of our club. This makes our site's web sponsorship an ideal opportunity for small and large businesses to promote their products, services or an upcoming event in our community. Moreover 100% of the advertising revenue goes back to our club; this in turn supports the local community.
Cost is $20 per month up to $120 per year . . . . click here for form and more information. We will include your logo/link on our web site, send one email blast to all Rotarians and include an initial mention in our newsletter and on our Facebook page.
Click on the logos under Web Site Sponsors...located on right side of our home page and in each newsletter. Our current sponsors are: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Designing Jewelers, Rotary Works, The Brain Game and Rotary Lights.
Last week at Rotary we welcomed Valley View Rotarian Terry Bauer. Terry's program was on Moon Tunes and the La Crosse Band Shell Project.PowerPoint Presentation.
A consortium of organizations that use the stand — including Rotary Lights, Moon Tunes, La Crosse Concert Band, Riverfest, La Crosse Jazz Orchestra and Explore La Crosse — are working to put a roof on the Wendell Anderson Bandstand in Riverside Park in 2019, providing some protection from the weather and, more importantly for the musicians, an acoustical shell to direct the sound toward the audience. The design, developed by architect Roald Gundersen, incorporates a round timber structure with arches mirroring the Cass Street bridge, ash tree columns and a copper fish-scale roof similar to the one on the Pettibone Park gazebo across the Mississippi River.
Make-ups...Just a reminder that you can view your attendance and make-ups online on our ClubRunner site. If we have missed recording an attendance or make-up for you, please email Earlamae Dahlby our Attendance and Make-up Coordinatorat earlamae@centurytel.net or stop and see her at the registration table. Those of you who hand in a make-up card from another club make sure you have your name and date on the card so we can give you credit!

One of our Rotarians was traveling last week in Northern Minnesota...they took a pic of this at an American Legion. He thought it would be a good share with our club for understanding the importance of a successful club. He feels our club is AWESOME and he thinks that is because we say on top of these 10 things. But many of us can do better in a few of these including himself.....take a look and see what you could improve on.

District 6250 Friendship Exchange Opportunities......Friendship Exchange is an international exchange program for Rotary members and friends that allows participants to take turns hosting one another in their homes and clubs. Participants may travel as individuals, couples, families, or groups, and may be Rotary members or not. More general information on Friendship Exchanges.
Here is the latest news. We are now announcing two new exchanges. One to the Netherlands, the other to New Mexico. Please spread the word. Being one of the first to commit to going helps your chances of being a participant. We will not take more than 12 on any trip. The maps will be on the next district dispatch and our district web site. If you want details, contact Edwin Bos for the Holland trip and Dave Clemens for the New Mexico trip. Details are below.
Rotary Friendship Exchange between our District 6250 and District 7680 in Holland
Our District Governor Elect, Edwin Bos, has arranged an exchange with Holland in 2019. Our group will travel to Hoogeland, Warfflum, Holland, as seen on the map midway between Amsterdam and Hamburg, Germany. This exchange will take place just before the annual Rotary International Conference. Our group will travel to Holland from May 24 to June 1, then go to the International Conference from June 1-5. We expect a group from Holland to visit our district in the fall, with dates to be determined later. More details can be found on our District web site. If interested in this trip, contact edwin@bosdesignbuilders.com. We expect to determine who will go by the end of January. We expect to get more interested persons than number that will travel together. Only firm commitments to travel will be accepted.
Rotary Friendship Exchange between our District 6250 and District 5520 in New Mexico
Our District has arranged an exchange with New Mexico. This will be the first Friendship Exchange within the United States, so language will not be a barrier. We expect a group from New Mexico to visit us for two weeks from October 3-11, 2019. Host clubs and families will be needed. A group from our district will travel to New Mexico from October 28 – November 5. Please send a request to drdave@dellsdental.net if you are interested in taking this trip. There will be more interested applicants than we can send, so only serious applicants should apply.
