ROTARY CLUB OF LACROSSE DAY
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:  13 JUN 2019

What a great weekend!  Our District 6250 District Conference under the leadership of District Governor Bill Hoel was phenomenal.  We are so fortunate in this community to have the events that we do.  Just this weekend we were able to enjoy Artspire at the Pump House, the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, the La Crosse Loggers, the La Crosse Speedway, the Mississippi River and hiking in the Bluffs.  These are just a few of the reasons why our community is such a great place to live.

It was fascinating to see the iron lung at the conference this weekend.  With this being my last month as president, I don’t have many more opportunities to share links to topics of interest.  Therefore, I am going back to the tried and true Kahn Academy for a series of videos on “Polio.”   LINK Polio Videos. This seems like an appropriate way to end my year with a topic so important to Rotary International and all of our members.

June marks Rotary International’s focus on “Rotary Fellowship” month.  Make plans to share an experience with a Rotarian(s) this month.  Finally, please do your best to attend the many events that we have planned, especially our centennial event.

THIS WEEK AT ROTARY - Classification Talk by Thai Vue

This Thursday, Rotarian Thai Vue, will be giving his classification talk. Members always enjoy hearing about their fellow Rotarians. Thai Vue has been a member of our club for 25+ years.  He is Executive Director at Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual Assistance Association, Inc.

Classification Talk: Some have described the classification talk as a talking business card.  But it is so much more than that!  You can share vital and interesting information about your family, your interest and your business. The talk is not meant to embarrass you, but to let us get to know you as you want us to.  You are not expected to present yourself as a professional speaker.  Most of us are not.  Contact Sarah Arendt-Beyer Program Chair for the year if you would like to give your classification talk.

REMINDER WE ARE IN THE RADISSON HOTEL BALLROOM

SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD WINNERS
Effective with the 2018-19 School Year, the Rotary Club of La Crosse changed the criteria and process for awarding funds to graduating seniors who are pursuing higher education. These awards were previously administered through the Rotary Works Foundation, but now will be handled directly by the Rotary Club of La Crosse through its Youth Committee.  Our budget allowed for $3,000 to be distributed....$1,000 per high school....Aquinas, Central and Logan.    Criteria and process LINK.

This year the following students were selected:
  Aquinas:  Matthew Jankowski
Central:  Tessa Edge    - Thank you received - LINK
