Braver Angels

Bill Doherty is a co-founder of Braver Angels and the creator of the Braver Angels workshop approach. Bill is a Professor and Director of the Minnesota Couples on the Brink Project in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota.  Bill combines a background in family therapy and community engagement. 

Braver Angels is a nonpartisan/nonprofit organization formed in 2016. They seek to depolarize American politics. Their work is rooted in grassroots organizing, assisting local communities to use the Braver Angels workshop approach to help participants bridge the political divide. From the first Braver Angels workshop, they now have scaled to more than 1,000 workshops and tens of thousands of participants nationwide. The root of their organizing begins in the transformation of our attitudes towards each other. The foundation of all their activities is what they refer to as patriotic-empathy: the idea that our love for our country is shown by our concern for our fellow citizens.
