Condolences
Thomas Francis Brock died September 12, 2024, at home, surrounded by his daughters and wife.
Tom was a member of Rotary Club of La Crosse for 20 years. From his wife, Jan: He wanted you all to know how much you all meant to him. The fellowship and ideals were two things he really valued - the principles/4 way test has always had a prominent place on his desk.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 12 at the La Crosse Country Club from 2-4 pm. A private burial has been held. Schumacher Kish Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Our speakers, Joe Ruskey, fellow Rotarian and owner of Dependable Solutions, and Investigator Darin Daveau with the La Crescent Police Department, will share information on the latest cybercrimes and scams affecting people in our area. They'll also share strategies to help you recognize, prevent, and report scams. The event is free and open to the public, but you must register to attend.
Pickleball for Polio - October 24th
Help us CELEBRATE WORLD POLIO DAY! Pickleball for Polio takes place at the Blue Zone Pickleball, 2500 Rose Street, La Crosse on Thursday, October 24th, which is World Polio Day.

Welcome to Week 1 of RI’s Economic & Community
Development Month.
In his October 2024 message, TRF trustee chair, Mark Daniel Maloney pays a special
tribute to the late John Sever of the Rotary Club of Potomac, MD, one of the heroes
of polio eradication. John Sever who died in April at age 92, was an infectious
disease specialist at the U.S. National Institutes of Health who recommended to
Rotary in 1979 that polio eradication be made a global goal. “What he helped initiate, PolioPlus, became an example of implementing an action plan in Rotary.” Maloney explains in the current issue of Rotary Magazine. Maloney emphasizes the immense contribution of Sever to the national vaccine campaign in the Philippines and his decades of leadership, expertise, and advocacy which have helped decrease polio cases by more than 99 percent since 1988.
While celebrating the achievements of Sever, Maloney acknowledges the setbacks experienced by PolioPlus, especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the undeterred spirit of the campaign. “But we get back on our feet. This year, we ended an outbreak of wild poliovirus in Malawi and Mozambique that was caused by an importation from Pakistan in 2021, and we decreased variant poliovirus cases. Rotary and our partners stay flexible, developing new tactics while staying focused on the long-term goal, with optimism.” Maloney believes that delivering a polio-free world is not only right for humanity, “…but also a smart investment in future generations. It will be Rotary’s greatest gift to the world. Countless heroes have followed Sever’s lead ---from the club president who organized her first End Polio Now fundraiser to the advocates, donors, and volunteers. We are all
part of this story.”
