Our speaker last week was our District 6250 Foundation Chair, and District Governor Nominee, Joe Ruskey. Joe gave a passionate talk on the Rotary International Foundation. We can also be confident in the RI Foundation because they have received one of the highest charitable ratings at 92.45% by Charity Navigator who compare and rate charities who do similar work. The next best rating of a similar organization performing the same type of work came in at 86.32%. These organizations are ranked based on their financial health and accountability and transparency in their financial practices.
You can also fill out a pledge form to have your donations included on your quarterly invoices. Pledge letter and forms will be distributed this week at our meeting... a two-year pledge from July 2015 through June 2017. Please fill out the form and return to Lyn by June 30th.
We are pleased to welcome back a former member Tami Woods to our club. Tami is a Paul Harris Fellow and past Rotarian of the Year (2011-12) from our club. She is employed at the Radisson Hotel as the Catering Manager. Welcome back Tami!
Our club will be sponsoring two students for the Short Term Exchange Program (STEP) this summer. If you were at our last two meetings you were introduced to Brianne Ties and Michael Davy.
Brianne and Michael embody what Rotary looks for in an exchange student: good character, a desire to live abroad and host in return, adaptable, mature and wanting to experience life in another country/culture. Both students will represent their families, their school, their country and Rotary District 6250 and our club very well. They are caring, adventurous and confident young adults who are grateful for their new experiences Rotary has given them. We will learn more on how Rotary can impact young adults when we have both Brianna & Michael return to visit our club this summer with their new "sibling" while their exchange is occurring in WI. Brianna Ties: is the daughter of Lynn & Steve Ties of Trempealeau, WI and is finishing her sophomore year at GET. She will be exchanging with a family from Italy. Brianna and her host sister will share a 8 week exchange... 4 weeks in Trempealeau and beyond and 4 weeks in Italy and beyond.
Michael Davy: is the son of Laura and Mark Davy of Onalaska, WI and is finishing his freshman year at Onalaska High School. He will be exchanging with a family from France. Michael and his host brother will share a 10 week exchange...5 weeks in France and beyond and 5 weeks in Onalaska and beyond.
We look forward to meeting their new "sibling" this summer. We wish them a fun and safe exchange.
AVENUES OF SERVICE BANQUET...Our 26th annual Avenues of Service Banquet will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Four Seasons Community Center, Caledonia, MN. Save the date for an evening of Rotary fellowship. We will gather with area Rotarians to recognize the hard work of individuals and clubs. Each club will recognize one member of their club for Rotarian of the Year....we are now taking nominations for our 2014-15 Rotarian of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, Avenues of Service Awards and the Rising Star Award. A strong (7.8) earthquake hit Nepal in the area near Barpak, a mountain village between capital Kathmandu and tourist town Pokhara. The earthquake was followed by many powerful aftershocks and a new earthquake (6.7) hit Nepal on Sunday, April 26.
Many historic buildings collapsed, temples have been ruined, roads destroyed. The quake was followed by more than 200 aftershocks and another huge earthquake (7.3) on May 12 and is now responsible for nearly 8,000 deaths in Nepal as well as India & Tibet.Visit the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust webpage to donate today..THEY NEED OUR HELP.

Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
