Our President, Bill Pritchard and President-elect Roger Christians are back from the RI Conference that was held in Brazil.  Bill will give us the highlights of the conference and what we can expect for the 2015-16 Rotary year.  Roger is playing hooky and will be cheering the Brewers on at the La Crosse Area Day at Miller Park!

We will also have one of our Short Term Exchange Students, Brianna Ties with us.  She will be bringing the exchange student from Italy that has been staying with her family. You will hear about their experiences so far....Brianna will then be heading over to Italy for four weeks.  A great experience for the girls sponsored by our club.  Please welcome them both to our club.

Jerry Williams, interim president of the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the impact of Destination Medical Center on surrounding communities.  Destination Medical Center (DMC) is an innovative economic development initiative to secure Minnesota's status as a global medical destination now and in the future.  Today's competitive health care environment is driving a small number of select medical institutions to emerge as leaders in delivering the highest quality medical care and attracting patients and visitors from throughout the world. Mayo Clinic's continued success in Minnesota depends on Rochester's ability to sustain quality access, development, service and public infrastructure necessary to remain competitive with other destination medical centers in the U.S. and abroad.  Visit their website for more information.

Roz Schnick gave her classification talk a few weeks ago....here is her PowerPoint Presentation....it was also video taped...a number of members asked to have it in the newsletter for viewing.....you can view by clicking below.

ROTARY SMILES

This is a good time to reflect on the great Rotary Foundation sponsored programs we support and on how each of us can contribute to make sure these programs continue.  Our Rotary Foundation sponsors a broad range of Educational and Humanitarian programs that save and change lives here and abroad: Group Study Exchange - GSE (the Brazil team that was here last week were such a delight!). Ambassadorial Scholars, Polio Eradication, District Matching Grants and Health/Hunger & Humanity (3H) Grants, Youth Exchange, to name a few.  These programs are the lifeblood of Rotary, creating world peace and understanding through the lives touched by the programs.  Ask any past Vocational team leader or any Rotarian who has visited/worked on an international project about the difference made by these programs...there are many wonderful stories of saved and changed lives around the world. YOUR contributions to The Rotary Foundation fund these Rotary programs.  Our local Rotary Works Foundation supports community and world-wide project.  They will be supporting our upcoming project in Uganda, our Fellowship Committee's project with New Horizons, scholarships to local High School Graduates, Ethics High School Retreat and other worthwhile projects through out the community.

We encourage you to learn more about The Rotary Foundation and make a contribution to continue saving and changing lives. These programs work and are a great investment for a better and safer world.   You will be given the opportunity to donate to The Rotary International Foundation, Rotary Works Foundation and Rotary International Polio Plus.  If for some reason you can not make a pledge at this time...that is OK...we just ask that you still fill out the pledge card, sign and return to Lyn by June 30th.  Save us a phone call and return your pledge form today.

AVENUES OF SERVICE BANQUET...Our 26th annual Avenues of Service Banquet will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Four Seasons Community Center, Caledonia, MN.  Save the date for an evening of Rotary fellowship.  We will gather with area Rotarians to recognize the hard work of individuals and clubs.  Each club will recognize one member of their club for Rotarian of the Year....we are now taking nominations for our 2014-15 Rotarian of the Year,  the Lifetime Achievement Award, Avenues of Service Awards and the Rising Star Award.   Visit our Avenues of Service page on our web site for more information on these awards and for nomination forms.

Please submit your La Crosse Downtown Rotarian of the Year Nominations by July 6th.

GIFT BASKETS.....We are also looking for items to put in two gift baskets that we will raffle off at the banquet.  All proceeds will benefit the Rotary Works Foundation.  If you have something you would like to donate, please drop it off at the registration table.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
