County Health Department Update
The COVID-19 level for La Crosse County is measuring at a LOWlevel at this time.
Per current CDC guidelines, when a county is in low COVID risk level, wearing masks indoors is optional.

According to the CDC's guidelines, individuals in communities at this level should stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if you have symptoms, but wear a mask indoors in public if you choose. However, additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness. People may choose to mask at any time. If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or test positive, we ask that you follow the CDC guidelines for quarantining/isolating
This Week at Rotary: Drake Hokanson, History of Aviation in La Crosse Through Photography

A Century of Aviation in La Crosse through Early Photographs

From grass fields and biplanes, to the early air mail service, to long concrete runways, Drake Hokanson provides a brief look at moments in local aviation history through vintage photographs gleaned from several private and public collections.

Drake Hokanson is an author, photographer, and editor with a specialization in transportation history and culture. He is author/coauthor of three books, has exhibited photographs coast to coast, and is professor emeritus at Winona State University. He and his wife Carol Kratz own and fly a classic Cessna 172.

Last Week: Ben Bauer, Our District Governor

Ben Bauer, our 6250 District Governor in 2022-2023 reminded us of Rotary's mission and vision and shared with us his goals for this Rotary year. Ben's goals are centered around supporting our clubs and strengthening what we do well, like our Foundation giving and Youth Programs.

Simultaneously he’ll lead our District team to grow more sustainable and supportive resources – all in the name of strengthening and supporting clubs. Other goals include a strong advocacy for clubs to provide comfort and care through a remarkable club experience, forming two new clubs, growing Rotaract and enhancing a District wide culture full of imagination and innovation.

Al's Musky Challenge Update

Since July, Rotarian Al Louis has been fish in Minnesota's Lake Vermilion to raise money for area youth! Al and his wife Brenda have personally pledged $100,000 to start an endowment fund to build a strong foundation for years to come. Brenda and Al challenge fellow Rotarians, businesses and others to get involved by becoming a sponsor or making a one-time donation. It can take about 10,000 casts to catch one musky!

Al's Musky Challenge continues to be dedicated in memory of founding member, David Amborn. Each year, Al continues to try to catch "the big one" to honor his good friend.

50% of this year's proceeds will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse and 50% will go towards the Al's Musky Challenge Endowment to provide lasting support for youth.

Our weekly meeting on October 13th will be at the BGC where a check will be presented.

Rotary Exchanges are Back!
The Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) is a program designed to exchange members with another district in order to create new friendships and foster international understanding and good will.  Participants are ambassadors for their own club and their country. RFE is an intense social and cultural experience. Some exchanges are all for fun and some are project based.

RFE are both happening and being planned at this time. A group from our district is in Poland for both fun and purpose (working with refugees) and the District RFE Committee is in communication with Chilli, Brazil, hoping for a group to visit our area in late May or early June.

District 6250 will travel to District 3170 in India the week(s) of February 4-14, 2023. The group will travel to Mumbai (Bomba), then inland to their district, then will move in their district to visit parts of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. Participants pay for air fare and make their own travel arrangements and are stay in host homes during their visits.

Who can travel on a RFE? Maximum of 12 interested Rotarians, spouses, and/or family members.  If you are interested, contact Dave Clements (link below) as soon as possible to get your name on the interest list.

Contact Niki Pohnl for more information on Friendship Exchanges. She will put you in touch with members of our club who have been involved with exchanges in the past if she can not answer all of your questions.
