Our Inbound Student 2005-06 was Sabrina Jeckelman from Switzerland. Sabrina and her boyfriend Felix are in Wisconsin visiting. They will be staying with Jack and Ann Haase from Tuesday through Saturday. Jack and Ann can not be at our meeting Thursday, however, Sabrina and Felix will attend our meeting with Mary Stanek who was Sabrina's YEC. Please make an effort to say "hi" to her.
Last week at Rotary our guest speaker was Idirisu Chin, a member of the Kumbo Rotary Club. Idirisu has been the Kumbo contact for the Rotary Sanitation/Water/Library Project. This project will provide toilets, hand washing and library facilities for ten small schools in Cameroon. Our club has adopted this project as one of our World Service Projects for 2016-17. If you are interested in making a donation, please write your check to the Rotary Works Foundation, PO Box 1571, La Crosse, WI 54602-1571...please note on check it is for the La Crosse Kumbo Project.
Dave Schafer from Woodbury Rotary Club was also a speaker representing "Books for Africa." Their mission is to end the book famine in Africa. www.BooksForAfrica.org
OUTBOUND YOUTH EXCHANGE: Rotarian Anne Snow presented checks on our club's behalf to two of our outbound exchange students....Grant Restel who will be going to Japan and Ashlyn Neader who will be heading to Austria. Grant is the son of Rotarians Todd and Eva Marie Restel.
Anita will not be at our next two meetings....Anyone wanting cards would have to come to her yard sale for Father’s Day or other cards. June 16th hours 8-3, June 17th hours 8-3, June 18th hours 8-12 (900 Milson Court).
Birthday, Wedding, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary, Congratulations, Note Cards and other cards will be available. All cards are unique and hand-made. Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Anita donates all sales to the Rotary Works Foundation!
La Crosse Rotary and Valley Project to support a secondary school - Sanitation and Menstrual Health Management Project. Our club's Board of Directors approved this as a club project which allows Roger and Sondra to collect donations for the project AND submit a matching grant to our District 6250.
The project site is in a small rural village located in TamilNadu, South India. The project will address the following sanitation needs: to help build toilet blocks for 745 students and 18 teachers at Pattamadai Ramaseshier Secondary School; to provide basic Menstrual Health Management for 253 girls at Ramaseshier School; to provide 1 incinerator and maintenance for disposal of used sanitary napkins and to train school maintenance worker for the incinerator. Total project cost will be $6200....they have submitted a matching grant to District 6250 for $3100. They will need to raise $3100 and have already have raised $2300 need only $800.

Congratulations to Bruce Swanwick 2015-16 La Crosse Downtown Rotarian of the Year. Bruce will be recognized at our Spring Social on June 21st and the Avenues of Service Dinner on August 16th.
Bruce was nominated by a number of Rotarians and they stated....Bruce is currently our Club Secretary and Chair of our Social Committee. Every week Bruce is at our meetings at 10:15 setting up and helps to clean up after the meeting. He is "johnny on the spot" always helping everyone. Bruce also transports some of our senior members to the meetings. He is always upbeat and greets everyone with a smile and hand shake and lives the Four Way Test. This year he was involved in raising funds for Coulee Region RSVP, Smarter than a Fifth Grader. He was involved in our Fruit Basket Fundraiser by visiting every Rotary Club in the area twice to promote the sale of our baskets. He is actively involved in our Club Social activities and is present at every event...he helped organize the bus to Caledonia for the Avenues of Service Dinner. He is a good cheerleader for our club and these social events, Bruce is the perfect selection for our 2015-16 Rotarian of the Year!!!
Friday and Saturday, July 15-16, 2016 - Copeland Park - La Crosse, WIsconsin.The Franciscan Healthcare Center for Breast Care will host the Coulee Region’s only dragon boat festival on Friday and Saturday, July 15-16, 2016. Teams will race head to head on the Black River along Copeland Park.

Save the date for our Spring Social, Tuesday, June 21st at Valley High Golf Club, Houston. Golfing will start around Noon and Social around 5:30.
Cost will be $55 per person for golf - includes a lunch (brat, hotdog, or ham/turkey sandwich, chips-pickle spear and 18 holes of golf with cart. This would be a 4 person team scramble ($15 will be donated back to Rotary).
Cost of the social will be $7.00 for Rotarians and $20 per person - appetizers will be served. Cash bar.

Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership ithe highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $67 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. Rotary Attendance policy is to attend or makeup at least 50% of the club meetings during the first six months and the second six months. They can be done by: • Attending regular club meetings • Making up meetings at other Rotary Clubs ( which includes E-Clubs) • Engaging in club projects/events/fellowship/board meetings.
As you know, the 2017 Rotary International Convention will take place in Atlanta from June 10-14. While every Rotary Convention is an exciting event, 2017 will be extra special because we will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation. As a matter of fact, it was in Atlanta at the 1917 Rotary Convention, that Rotary President Arch Klumphannounced the formation of OUR foundation with the first contribution of $26.50.
In honor of Arch's birthday on June 6th, and in memory of the first donation,Rotary is offering a special registration fee of $265 - but only from May 28th to June 6th. After June 6th, the registration fee will increase to $340.
