Kevin (a local historian) and Patsy (a local artist) Alderson sell art and give Amish Tours and Round Barn Tours in the Hillsboro area. Their program will highlight the Amish in the area.
This is also our "Rotary Rally Day." Rally Day is all about getting as many Rotarians at this meeting as possible....we have 169 members...right now we have 100 registered....where are the other 69 of you! Please register or email Lyn if you will be attending.
We will also celebrate Simran's 17th birthday....please remember she is away from her family on her special day. We would like to make it a special week for her...she will turn 17 on September 25th.

Last week at Rotary Rotarian Bob Bendiksen, a member of our club since August 1985, past Club President (1991-92), District Governor (2003-04) and D6250 Rotary Friendship Exchange Chair shared his story with us. We thank Bob for sharing his life journey with us. It is always heartwarming to hear about our member's stories. ROTARY VISTA TRAIL GRAND OPENING...The Grand Opening will be Monday, September 19th at 1:00 pm at the Hixon Forest Trail Head/Parking Lot. We will have speakers including Mayor Kabat, Jay Odegaard (Park and Rec), Kurt Schroeder (Rotary), Jeffrey Worrel (ORA) and Willie Bittner (WisCorps). Come and help us celebrate the opening of one of the premiere multi-use trails in the region. 2.5 miles long/500 feet of elevation. Rotary Vista Trail extends from the Hixon Forest Parking Lot to the Rim of the City Road. This Rotary project was achieved by working with the City Park and Rec. Department, Outdoor Recreation Alliance and WisCrops.

The La Crosse After Hours Club is looking for two hosts family for their exchange student, Eugene. Eugene is attending Central High School. They are looking for a family to take him around the holidays for about three months, and another in the Spring until he leaves. For more information, please contact Bill Pritchard.
We are also looking for transportation on the weekend of September 30th. Our area exchange students will be going to Camp Rotamer in Janesville. We are looking for drivers to take the four local students to Janesville on the afternoon of September 30th and bring them back the morning of October 2nd. We lost a member of our Rotary family, Dan Danou passed away on September 7th...Dan became a member of our club on February 4, 1985 and just recently became an honorary member due to his health. We send his wife Nancy and family our condolences. Her request is that no flowers are sent and memorials should be directed to the Rotary Works Foundation, PO Box 1571, La Crosse, WI 54602-1571.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Gracies (1908 Campbell Rd, La Crosse). There will be parking available in lot C9 at UW La Crosse. The Centennial Ad Hoc Committee has already started meeting. Our Club's 100th Anniversary will be June 2019. Todd Restel who will be our president at that time is the chair of the committee. It is expected that the flyers will pertain only to projects with which Rotarians have a personal involvement. But, in order to save meeting time, only the club president will announce the flyers available on the tables, mentioning a person to contact for more information; no other announcement will be made. Under no circumstances will direct sales of any item be allowed at Rotary meetings, unless it is a Rotary fundraiser. Rotary projects do not fall under this announcement restriction or do projects approved by the Board of Directors.

This month Rotarian Andy Bakkum is program chair. He has lined up five women to do "Rotarians in the News" and we will be having DOUBLE FINES for the month of September. There will be two baskets and all donations in the second basket will go to New Horizons in La Crosse. What a great way to support one of our local agencies in need. Rotary Youth Exchange A Step Toward WorldUnderstanding. The La Crosse area Rotary Clubs are looking for students who are interested in a unique experience of attending high school while living in another Rotary International country. Rotary International has a program which annually involves over 10,000 high school students living nearly a year in another country. Candidates must be sophomores to seniors in high school at the time of application and 16-18 1/2 years old when they leave for their assigned country. Applicants must rank in the upper half of their class.
How to apply. If you know of someone that is interested in this program for the 2017-18 school year, simply have them complete and return the application. Click here for application and more information. An informational meeting will be September 15, 2016, 6:30 pm at the Children's Museum, 207 5th Avenue, La Crosse. Preliminary application due, September 15, 2016. Local interviews will be September 26, 2016 and final application due October 12, 2016. District interviews will be held on November 6, 2016 in Baraboo.
The next two District 6250 Friendship exchanges, Nepal in October and Philippines early next year, are completely booked. But our district friendship exchange coordinator sends the following about the possibility for an India exchange in 2017:
I just received a message from Gujarat, India. They have six couples interested in traveling to our district in May and June of 2017. They would like us to travel to their district next year the last ten days of January, finishing on February 3-5 at their district conference. We can do this, since district funds are not needed to fund these trips. Travelers pay their air fare, first hotel night and perhaps rental cars. Hosts support the visitors with room, board, entertainment and perhaps transportation.
My question to this group is to see what you think of this exchange. If you would like to do it, spread the word and see if there is anyone in your club that would like to participate. Travelers can expect to travel from January 21 - February 5, 2017.

Birthday, Wedding, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary, Congratulations, Note Cards and other cards will be available. All cards are unique and hand-made. Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Anita donates all sales to the Rotary Works Foundation! Last quarter she donated $210 for the 2nd quarter card sales. Y-T-D sales are $450.00. Thank you to all who supports Anita's fundraiser for the Rotary Works Foundation.
Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $70 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
