LAST WEEK AT ROTARY
Last week at Rotary our guest speaker was Rotarian David Stoeffler, Executive Director at La Crosse Public Education Foundation (LPEF). The mission of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation is to enhance learning opportunities for students in the School District of La Crosse and to promote community understanding and support for public education.

Key foundLogoers and early supporters include: Jean Bassett, Kathryn Cappelen, Harry Dahl, Sue Durtsche, Roberta Gelatt, Elmer Grassman, Rachel Gundersen, Robert Johnson, Audrey Kader, Marilyn Kochsiek, R. Bruce Larson, Richard Lommen, Dr. Charles H. Miller III, Jess Ondell, Ronald Paczkowski, Nancy Quinlisk, Thomas Sleik, Roland Solberg, Gary Stuhr, Brad Sturm, Richard Swantz and Dorothy Tonnis.

They established an endowment to help fund the work we do – investing in school innovation through grants that are awarded to teachers and staff for fresh, creative programs and curriculum that cannot be funded through the district’s already tight budget. Over the years, community members, local businesses and school district staff have contributed generously.

The Foundation expects to provide more than $175,000 in support this year to students and staff in the School District of La Crosse. This includes nearly $55,000 in classroom grants and about $20,000 for Random Acts of Kindness to meet needs of students in areas such as nutrition, hygiene, clothing, and transportation. A key new program supports the implementation of AVID, a college readiness program available to students at both Central and Logan High Schools.

PAUL HARRIS FELLOW RECOGNITION

ImageLAST WEEK AT ROTARY.....we recognized Kelly Barton with Paul Harris Fellow Award....This  is one of the highest honors Rotary can bestow upon a person. Recipients are Rotarians and community professionals in recognition of their outstanding contributions, exemplifying the highest ideal in Rotary in placing 'Service Above Self." Paul Harris Fellow is a person who has contributed, or in whose name a contribution of $US1000 has been made, to the Annual Programs Fund and certain other programs of The Rotary Foundation. Recognition of a Paul Harris Fellow is an opportunity to show appreciation for a person, either Rotarian or non-Rotarian, who shares the values of the Foundation.

THANK YOU  Kelly for your donations and commitment to the Rotary Foundation.

Our club over the years has produced 282 Paul Harris Fellows.....of the 169 current members, 115 are Paul Harris Fellows!
