This week at Rotary Cameron Neader a Youth Exchange Student who just returned home from Istanbul Turkey will give a presentation on his year long adventure.
You may remember Cameron from a previous Rotary Youth exchange to Denmark in 2013-14. Cameron said he has been lucky enough to have a "once in a lifetime experience"...two times!
Congratulations to Bruce Swanwick 2015-16 La Crosse Downtown Rotarian of the Year. Bruce was recognized at our meeting last week. He will also be recognized at our Avenues of Service Dinner on August 16th.
Bruce was nominated by a number of Rotarians and they stated....Bruce is currently our Club Secretary and Chair of our Social Committee. Every week Bruce is at our meetings at 10:15 setting up and helps to clean up after the meeting. He is "johnny on the spot" always helping everyone. Bruce also transports some of our senior members to the meetings. He is always upbeat and greets everyone with a smile and hand shake and lives the Four Way Test. This year he was involved in raising funds for Coulee Region RSVP, Smarter than a Fifth Grader. He was involved in our Fruit Basket Fundraiser by visiting every Rotary Club in the area twice to promote the sale of our baskets. He is actively involved in our Club Social activities and is present at every event...he helped organize the bus to Caledonia for the Avenues of Service Dinner. He is a good cheerleader for our club and these social events, Bruce is the perfect selection for our 2015-16 Rotarian of the Year!!!
Last week at Rotary we had the changing of the guard. Roger thanked his Club Board for the their work this past year.....Patt Boge, Jodi Widuch, Todd Restel, Bruce Swanwick, Bill Pritchard, John Wettstein, Kelly Krieg-Sigman, Kelly Barton, Matt Boshcka, Dave Clements, Steve Doll, Sue Durtsche, Steve Lindeman, Annette Mikat, Maria Norberg, and Rob Palmberg. Also recognized were Craig Ubbleoholde, Jeanne Meyer, Majel Hein and Jeanne Meyer for representing us on the Rotary Works Board.... Earlamae Dahlby and Ann Haase were also thanked for their service this past year.
The past presidents then handed the gavel over to the 2016-17 President Patt Boge.
Patt thanked Roger and presented him with a plaque, past president pin and special gift.
Andy Bakkum and Lee Rasch entertained us with a rendition of Simon and Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson!
Dean Dickinson, Kathryn Sexauer and Sue Durtsche presented the Paul Harris Fellow awards (those recognized are noted in the article below).

ALL NEW members become a member of this committee for one year. This breakfast is hosted (no cost to the new members). The breakfast and presentation will last no longer than one hour and the meeting will count as a make-up. The STAR Committee, in addition to meeting other new members and some of the present membership will learn more about various aspects of the Club.

Members have reserved the Hi Lite Zone on July 14th at the Logger's game to celebrate Elmer's 90th Birthday. He will be honored as the Hero of the Game prior to the game and raise the American flag.
Tickets are $15 and include the game ticket, sandwich, chips and soft drinks and $2 beer. The gates open at 6 pm.

Anita will be selling greeting cards at our upcoming meetings.
Birthday, Wedding, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary, Congratulations, Note Cards and other cards will be available. All cards are unique and hand-made. Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Anita donates all sales to the Rotary Works Foundation! Last quarter she donated $210 for the 2nd quarter card sales. Y_T_D sales are $450.00. ROTARY AVENUES OF SERVICE DINNER....Avenues of Service Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Four Seasons Community Center, Caledonia. Save the date for an evening of Rotary fellowship. This is a fundraiser for our Rotary Works Foundation. Fellowship.....Awards....Basket Raffle.
Lifetime Achievement Award: All Rotarians are invited to nominate individuals for the "Lifetime Achievement Award" - You can nominate any Rotarian from any of the local Rotary Clubs. Lifetime Achievement award is given to a Rotarian who best demonstrates a commitment to Rotary's Four Way Test and the Object of Rotary. Among the criteria considered will be length of time in Rotary (10 year minimum commitment to Rotary and its programs); who demonstrates high ethical standards in his/her business or profession, and who is committed to the ideal of service in his/her personal, business and community life. No Rotarian who has previously received this award may be nominated. Past Lifetime Achievement Recipients: 2007 Jack Haase; 2008 Natalie Hartigan; 2009 Mac Dahl (deceased); 2010 Pat Stephens; and 2011 Dean Dickinson, 2012 Mike Klug, 2013 Elmer Grassman and Pat Smith, 2014 Dick Spencer and Dick Wieser, 2015 Dirk Gasterland and Phil Quillin. Deadline to submit is July 15, 2016.
Rotary Avenue of Service Awards: Five Avenues of Service Awards (one in each category) are presented annually to club projects that best exemplify Rotary ideals in the five avenues of service. A club may nominate more than one project. Please complete a separate form for each nomination. Club Service, Community Service, International Service, Vocational Service and New Generations. Deadline to submit is July 15, 2016.
Rotary Four Way Test Award - Rotary Rising Star Award: The Four Way Test - Rotary Rising Star award is given to a Rotarian who best demonstrates a commitment to Rotary's Four Way Test and the object of Rotary. Among the criteria considered will be length of time in Rotary (a minimum of 2 years but not more than 5 years); a strong commitment to Rotary and its programs; someone who demonstrate high ethical standards in hi/her business or profession, and who is committed to the ideal of service in his/her personal, business and community life. Past Rising Star Recipients: 2014 Johnny Brevik & Arien O'Heron, 2015 Matt Boshcka. Deadline to submit is July 15, 2016.
Rotarian of the Year will be recognized by each club. Our club will recognize Bruce Swanwick as our Rotarian of the Year.

Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $67 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.

Rotary Attendance policy is to attend or makeup at least 50% of the club meetings during the first six months and the second six months.
