This week at Rotary our guest speaker will be Idirisu Chin, a member of the Kumbo Rotary Club. Idirisu has been the Kumbo contact for the Rotary Sanitation/Water/Library Project. This project will provide toilets, hand washing and library facilities for ten small schools in Cameroon. Our club has adopted this project as one of our World Service Projects for 2016-17.
We will welcome three new members to our club: Katie Berekedal, Alan Louis and Dan Roemhild....all proposed by David Amborn.
Last week at Rotary....Roger and Sondra LeGrand shared their remarkable experiences in India that started back in 1969 in the Peace Corps teaching English. They were married in India on July 13, 1970 and the past 47 years has been years of friendships and service. They shared the connections our Rotary Club of La Crosse and Valley View Rotary had with India....which included after the Tsunami in 2004 our donations supplied a community with a boat, an ambulance and fish tricycles. In 2008 again our club and Valley View donated 25 artificial limbs. Click here to view PowerPoint that has photos and other connections that Roger and Sondra LeGrand and our club have had with India.
They also shared news on an ambitious Rotary Project to support a secondary school - Sanitation and Menstrual Health Management Project. Our club's Board of Directors approved this as a club project which allows Roger and Sondra to collect donations for the project AND submit a matching grant to our District 6250.
The project site is in a small rural village located in TamilNadu, South India. The project will address the following sanitation needs: to help build toilet blocks for 745 students and 18 teachers at Pattamadai Ramaseshier Secondary School; to provide basic Menstrual Health Management for 253 girls at Ramaseshier School; to provide 1 incinerator and maintenance for disposal of used sanitary napkins and to train school maintenance worker for the incinerator. Total project cost will be $6200....they have submitted a matching grant to District 6250 for $3100. They will need to raise $3100 and have already have raised $2300 need only $800.
THANK YOU. They thank those members that have already made a donation.
DONATIONS are now being accepted for this project....send your check made out to Rotary Club of La Crosse to PO Box 1914, La Crosse or drop off at the registration table. Please put TamilNadu in the memo.

Congratulations to Bruce Swanwick 2015-16 La Crosse Downtown Rotarian of the Year. Bruce will be recognized at our Spring Social on June 21st and the Avenues of Service Dinner on August 16th.
Bruce was nominated by a number of Rotarians and they stated....Bruce is currently our Club Secretary and Chair of our Social Committee. Every week Bruce is at our meetings at 10:15 setting up and helps to clean up after the meeting. He is "johnny on the spot" always helping everyone. Bruce also transports some of our senior members to the meetings. He is always upbeat and greets everyone with a smile and hand shake and lives the Four Way Test. This year he was involved in raising funds for Coulee Region RSVP, Smarter than a Fifth Grader. He was involved in our Fruit Basket Fundraiser by visiting every Rotary Club in the area twice to promote the sale of our baskets. He is actively involved in our Club Social activities and is present at every event...he helped organize the bus to Caledonia for the Avenues of Service Dinner. He is a good cheerleader for our club and these social events, Bruce is the perfect selection for our 2015-16 Rotarian of the Year!!!

Our club's cell number is 608.526.4491 (no land line only cell). Please update your information...I will no longer use the 317.6033 that some of you have.
Our email address is rotarylax@charter.net. You can not use the mailservice@clubrunner.ca as a direct email address. Emails sent from ClubRunner will have the mailservice address and you can REPLY and I will receive the email...HOWEVER you can not use it as direct email address. Hope this clarifies why I may not receive your emails.
Received this information from our ClubRunner Support: The email mailservice@clubrunner.ca is used to send out email. If someone emails that email address directly, it does not go anywhere. But if you send a communication to your Club and someone replies to the mailservice@clubrunner.ca address it is supposed to change the reply email from mailservice@clubrunner.ca to your email address. So if someone replies it will go directly to you. Unfortunately some cell phones and email clients do not change the email address to yours. They keep the mailservice@clubrunner.ca by mistake. This is our of our control. The issue is at the member's end.
