This week we will have our annual Christmas Program...and what a program it will be. We have 16 students who will be entertaining us with Christmas music. We will have a full house with 160 Rotarians and guests registered. Dean says dress "festive." We know one person for sure who will be wearing red!
Last week Rotarian Dean Dickinson presented the District 6250 Million Dollar Challenge.
What's the Million Dollar Journey All About?
District 6250 is undertaking a very special promotion to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Rotary Foundation. Please click here for an explanation by District Foundation Chair Dave Warren of our Million Dollar Journey.
Rotarians Dean Dickinson and Bill Hoel would be happy to answer any questions you may have on this opportunity for you to make your legacy live on. (Bill had planned to make the presentation with Dean but unfortunately had to attend a funeral.)
A question was raised on the rating of the Rotary International Foundation...Dean has made the following statement to clarify: Charity Navigator has rated the Rotary International Foundation with their top designation of four stars and in addition, has rated the foundation with 100 points in the areas of strength, accountability and transparency. The foundation has been rated with a 97.87 point rating in the overall evaluation. It was not my intention to mislead you but simply continued the comment made in the video by our District Rotary Foundation Chair, Dave Warren. This evaluation places the Rotary Foundation at the very top of all non profits and non governmental organization rated by Charity Navigator.
Last week at Rotary we recognized members with The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contributed, $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. We recognized the following:
Craig Ubbelohde PH+5
Cheryl Hanson PH+4
Patt Boge PH+1
Roz Schnick PH+1
Kurt Schroeder PH+1
We congratulate them and thank them for their generous, ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation. Their giving promotes peace, fights disease, provides clean water, saves mothers and children, supports education, and grows local economies through grants that:
Bring peace-building seminars to 200 teachers and 1,300 students in Uganda.
Distribute insecticide-treated mosquito nets and medical services that help prevent malaria in Mali.
Train teachers who are establishing an early-childhood education center in South Africa.
Provide water filters, toilet blocks, and hygiene training to prevent fluorosis in a community in India.
Fund a scholarship for a medical professional to research ways to minimize mortality rates among premature babies in Italy.
We also welcomed a new member...Matt Durtsche. Matt is a 3rd generation of Rotarians. Matt's father and mother, Tim and Sue Durtsche and his grandfather Lindy Saline are members of our club. Please welcome Matt to our club.
We voted on our By-Law changes....click here to view. Moved by Chuck Hanson and seconded by Ryan Geister to approve the changes. Motion carried.
We presented our nominations for the 2017-18 Club Board and Rotary Works Representatives ..voting/approval will take place at our annual meeting on January 26th. Click here to view the nominations.
Cameroon School Project Update...Thanks to the generous response by many members of the club last week, we are now very close to meeting our goal for the Cameroon School Project. The Global Grant was approved and it will be released to us from Rotary International as soon as we deposit our $24,110 local share in the project bank account. To complete the project,we need just $495. If you haven’t made a gift to support the project, please do so this week. Bring cash or a check payable to Rotary Works to the meeting. This is will improve the lives of thousands and thousands of kids in Cameroon!
The Youth Exchange Committee invites families interested in hosting our next student to make their wishes known. Last year, we had 4 families interested before we even knew who our student was going to be. Generally, families will be considered in the order in which they express their interest. Your hosting is for a 3 to 4 month period. To put your name on an interested (but perhaps not 100% committed) list, please contact Marie Norberg, Eva Marie Restel or Jack Haase.
