ROTARY LIGHTS....Thanks to all who helped with Rotary Lights this year...it was a record year. Pat Stephens will be presenting to our club in March or April and you will hear the final results.
We received the following correspondences.....
Our new location has allowed us to enjoy the lights as well as to have an added appreciation for the time and talent of so many volunteers along with your Leadership, for the benefit of our entire community. Wow, are we Blessed! Hours and hours of set up and watching the take down talent, noting the single green lighted tree the first night, then a single blue tree the second night made one think "God is good!" A simple Thank- you is very small in light of what so many have contributed, but sincere appreciation is felt from the heart! God Bless! Jan & Duane Moore.
We moved to "River Place" on December 3rd. Our apartment looks towards the river between north end of Rotary Lights and Friendship Gardens. We thank you and all the Rotary Club members, volunteers and helpers for this awesome display. It was a great joy to sit on our balcony and see the lights (synced to music), horses clip-clopping, and children laughing. Great job! Dennis and Julie Montabon.
COME FOR SUPPER....The Humanitarian Committee will be helping again with the "Come for Supper Meal Program" at Our Savior's Lutheran Church - 612 Division Street on Tuesday, January 26th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Click here to sign-up - Come for Supper.
Our next STAR Meeting will be this Thursday, January 14th. We will meet at the Radisson Hotel in the Wisconsin Room - 3(1st floor) at 7:00 a.m.
ALL NEW members become a member of this committee for one year. This breakfast is hosted (no cost to the new members). The breakfast and presentation will last no longer than one hour and the meeting will count as a make-up. The STAR Committee, in addition to meeting other new members and some of the present membership will learn more about various aspects of the Club.
Dan Danou had a stroke over Christmas...his wife Nancy sent this email......We got home from Rochester on New Year’s Eve. Dan has made nice progress but has a long journey ahead, especially with communication. All areas were impacted: comprehension(although this has made great gains), speaking, reading and writing. Right now he can do none of these. Out patient therapy starts on Tuesday. He is working hard and I am very proud of him. He would love hearing from his Rotarian friends, especially by snail mail. When we get things figured out with therapy, a visit now and then will be appreciated. Again, Dan appreciates hearing from you. Nancy
Dan's address is N1723 Paris Angel Drive, La Crosse WI 54601
THE NOMINATION COMMITTEE presented to membership the 2016-17 Club Board and Rotary Works Foundation Board (representatives from our club) ... Moved by Bill Hoel, seconded by David Amborn to approve the 2016-17 Boards....motion carried. Click here to view.
I have been asked by Todd Restel to oversee the club history subcommittee that is a part of the 100th Club Anniversary (2019) action committee. Over the past few weeks, I have put in a few hours in the La Crosse Public Library Archive Room reviewing the first few files of the 3+ boxes of material available. These materials are a treasure trove of past information on the founding of our club, along with the various activities and projects our club has accomplished since 1919. Some of the information has been supplied by past efforts within our club – I have seen the name Bob Daley and Dan Danou thus far. The charge of this subcommittee is to dive into this material to uncover information and data that will be used by the entire action committee to help plan the 100th Anniversary celebration. Although it is VERY early in the process, the amount of material make it necessary to get a start on the history gathering. This email will serve as a public cry for any members who would like to join this part of the project.
For those members interested, please reply by email with your interest. I am going to set an appointment approximately once a week for 1 hour at the downtown Library to review the materials. Everyone on the sub-committee will receive the date/time of the next months “gatherings”. Once reviewed, I will be creating summaries on each artifact, along with a photo. These summaries will be forwarded to the subcommittee on a Monthly basis, and to the main action committee soon after. More than one set of eyes reviewing this material is helpful as new material often creates new connections.
I see this sub-committee having much work in front of them. It will take commitment and dedication – but I hope a few of you are up to the challenge! In case you can’t be at a particular gathering, committee members will receive a summary of the materials reviewed so you can “catch-up”. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know by email.
