Thank you to Carol Abrahamzon for giving her classification talk and sharing her story with us. It is always heartwarming to hear about our member's stories. Click here to view her PowerPoint presentation.
We also had a special Paul Harris Presentation... Rotarian Tom Thompson honored his daughter Lynsee Thompson with a Paul Harris Fellow for her successes along her journey in life. Congratulations to our newest Paul Harris Fellow Lynsee!!!
This is one of the highest honors Rotary can bestow upon a person. Recipients are Rotarians and community professionals in recognition of their outstanding contributions, exemplifying the highest ideal in Rotary in placing 'Service Above Self." Paul Harris Fellow is a person who has contributed, or in whose name a contribution of $US1000 has been made, to the Annual Programs Fund and certain other programs of The Rotary Foundation. Recognition of a Paul Harris Fellow is an opportunity to show appreciation for a person, either Rotarian or non-Rotarian, who shares the values of the Foundation.

In 2014 we had a "Wine into Water" event to support the Uganda project with Tomah Rotary Club..we raised $31,000. Rotarian Hal Keitel, who left us to soon, was instrumental in this World Service Project. One of the wells in Uganda is in his memory. Rotarians from Tomah were just in Uganda. where Hal was remembered. Hal's dedication and work continues to make a difference in this world.
Martha Opelt sent this email...On Tuesday the team delivered backpacks, toothbrushes, notebooks and soccer balls to 4 schools. All team members were touched by the gratitude of the children for simple gifts. The children will often rush to move their few school items from their tattered garbage bags to their new backpacks. Seeing streams of children walking along the road with their new purple backpacks is so heartwarming. Later in the day the team developed and laminated their Photos for Peace pics. Will did an amazing job. The photos are beautiful. We are excited to return them to the families. Wendy, Sarah and Nancee held a meeting with 100 high school girls to teach about a unique donation, the Diva Cup which is a menstruation tool that will allow the girls to continue in classes during their menstruation. The team ended the night with a Nile Beer and grasshoppers as appetizers. Everyone ends the day exhausted by their efforts but filled with gratitude for the people we are meeting. Thanks to all who have given to this relationship. We are loving the connections.
Jen visited Hal Keitel's well in Gnombe Nnombe. We brought eggs to the well since Hal was key in securing the Rotary Grant for water and growth of the chicken farm. Jen travelled with the leader of the RCC, Joseph. They boiled the eggs at his mother' s home as she lives in this village. They were boiled in a large kettle over an open flame. The villagers were so thankful for the new well. The children recognized Hal as an important member of their community. They led us to the old water source at the bottom of a near valley. Dirty water collection covered by logs. Jen was deeply touched by the sense of community and gratitude for Hal's efforts.
Wednesday... Jen visited Noah's well. It is located near the cutest primary school she has seen in Uganda. The kids were very excited to have clean water. The kids wrote a poem and performed a skit to show how much clean water means to them. Will share those when back in the US. They are precious. Jen shared Noah's story and expressed the love from Noah's family. It was a moving day.
Jen and Sister Salome visited Bbira the village that will receive a well funded by the kids at West Salem Middle school. The kids at the local primary school were waiting to greet them despite school ending one hour before their arrival. They were excited to see the Muzungu and learn details of their upcoming well. They gave a tour of the school which included Disney characters painted on the concrete fence. Then we took a long walk down to their current water site. It was a muddy pit overcrowded with kids trying to collect water for dinner, yet they were welcoming. All cannot wait to use the upcoming well. Jen brought the plaque that will be place the well and a West Salem T shirt for the headmaster. The drilling of this well is held up by the approval of phase 2 of the global grant. The driller will only drill once all wells are funded, so frustratingly we wait while kids drink dirty water. Yet on our drive back to St. Kizito we received the call we have been waiting for, the second phase is approved by Rotary International! Nile beers and grasshoppers to celebrate tonight!

The funds have already been used in Uganda to provide ongoing clean water, education, and daily meals to over 17,000 children.
This Fall Our district will participate in a Friendship Exchange with Nepal. They are happy to have a group of 10-14 come for two weeks. If anyone is interested in participating, make contact with our district Friendship Exchange chairman, David Clemens. The best way to contact him is by email, drdave@dellsdental.net.
