The Salvation Army Civic Event: Save the date for Thursday, May 12th. With the theme "At the Movies," they will gather at the Cargill Room for food, fellowship, music from Greg Balfany and some good, movie-related, fun. Enjoy an evening out while helping those in need. Proceeds from the event are used to operate The Salvation Army Homeless Shelter. You'll also want to congratulate this year's Community Red Shield Award recipients: Don and Roxanne Weber. Start time is 6:00 p.m. Reservations are $50 each.
Last week's program wasabout the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Alexander Platt, Conductor was the speaker. La Crosse Symphony has been serving the cultural needs of this area continuously since 1941. This 2015-16 season marks its 118th year. The mission of the Symphony is “to provide excellent symphonic music for the pleasure of the public in the tri-state region, educate people of all ages in the symphonic repertoire and tradition, and encourage student and professional musicians to develop and share their musical talents and skills.”
The Conductor Wannabe Competition winners were announced....The winner of the competition was Joe Heim who raised a Record Breaking $35,174! The runner up was our very own Rotarian Mary Ann Gschwind who raised an amazing $23,657.66! Joe Heim and Mary Ann Gschwind conducted repertoire by Mendelssohn, Scherzo and Wedding March, from A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra’s concert last Saturday evening. Please join the La Crosse Area Friends of Cameroon at a social event to learn more about the exciting connections between the La Crosse Area and Kumbo, Cameroon. Our club has endorsed the Cameroon School Sanitation and Literacy Project as one of our World Service Projects. The event will be held, Wednesday, May 11th at The Court Above Main, 420 Main Street, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. with a program at 6:00 p.m. Click here to view flyer. Our next STAR Meeting will be Thursday, May 12th. We will meet at the Radisson Hotel in the Wisconsin Room 3 at 7:00 a.m.
ALL NEW members become a member of this committee for one year. This breakfast is hosted (no cost to the new members). The breakfast and presentation will last no longer than one hour and the meeting will count as a make-up. The STAR Committee, in addition to meeting other new members and some of the present membership will learn more about various aspects of the Club.

Mother's Day, Graduation, Birthday, Wedding, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary, Congratulations, Note Cards and other cards will be available. All cards are unique and hand-made. Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Save the date for our Spring Social, Tuesday, June 21st at Valley High Golf Club, Houston. Golfing will start around Noon and Social around 5:30.
Cost will be $55 per person for golf - includes a lunch (brat, hotdog, or ham/turkey sandwich, chips-pickle spear and 18 holes of golf with cart. This would be a 4 person team scramble ($15 will be donated back to Rotary).
Cost of the social will be $20 per person - appetizers will be served. Cash bar.

Money raised will go towards the Rotary Vista Trail...our commitment for signage and a Grand Opening that will be held this summer.

The board will review the nominations at the May board meeting and make a selection. The Rotarian of the Year will be recognized at our Spring Social and the Avenues of Service Dinner on Tuesday, August 16th. Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members whose age and number of years in Rotary total 85 years. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $67 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
OUR ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY
I’m Cameron Neader, an 18 year old who’s lucky enough to have a “once in a life experience” two times. I went on exchange to Fyn, Denmark in 2013-2014 through Rotary and now on a second Rotary Youth exchange to Istanbul, Turkey for 2015-2016. My first day in Turkey was September 1st.
