This week at Rotary we will welcome Terese Agnew....program is "Writing in Stone Project." Terese is an artist creating a large scale, collaborative art installation that honors Wisconsin's historic, cultural and natural assets.
We will be collecting food for the iFeed food drive...please bring your nonperishable food items this week and support our Interact Students.

The Reverie Harp program came about because of a desire to bring the healing arts into a medical setting. Realizing the power of music to make people feel better by helping them to relax, they searched for an instrument that could produce this outcome and be compatible within a hospital setting. Their primary concern was patients, but they also wanted to help staff, family and visitors. What became as a pilot program on 9th floor at Mayo Clinic Health System in 2012 has now grown to all medical floors and the cancer center. Through June of 2016 they have seen 7,980 patients and 2,538 family/others. Harp presentation.
World Polio Day October 24th...Rotary for their fourth annual World Polio Day event, co-hosted with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was on October 24th. They streamed live from CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, to bring together more than 50,000 viewers around the world. They were joined by celebrities and experts to share OUR progress on the road to polio eradication.
World Polio Day was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis. Use of this inactivated poliovirus vaccine and subsequent widespread use of the oral poliovirus, developed by Albert Sabin, led to the establishment of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988. As of 2013, GPEI had reduced polio worldwide by 99%.
Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. Polio can be prevented through immunization. Polio vaccine, given multiple times, almost always protects a child for life. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.
WHAT CAN YOU DO
Rotarians have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. For as little as $0.60, a child can be protected against this crippling disease for life. Your gift to the PolioPlus Fund is eligible for Paul Harris Society recognition. Our club will match your donation with "foundation points." You give $500 we will match your donation with 500 points...you will then receive a Paul Harris Fellow. Any donation $10, $25, $50, etc will be matched with foundation points. Write your checks out to Rotary Foundation - note Polio Plus and give to Lyn. We will accept donations for the match until Thursday, December 15th.
A MILLION MISSISSIPPI REFLECTIONS...2016 Rotary Lights opens the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 25th. This will be Rotary Lights 22nd year! The primary mission of Rotary Lights is to eliminate hunger in our area.
How can you get involved.....
Our club will be responsible for volunteering opening night...so save the date - November 25th! There will be two shifts from 4:30-10:20. Bill Hoel will be passing around the sign-up sheets at our upcoming meetings...or sign-up online.
Rotary Lights will again print a keepsake booklet. This 20 page 8 1/2 x 11 color brochure will feature a history of the project, maps, schedules, photos, and much more. 30,000 booklets will be produced that will be personally handed out to each vehicle and to groups of walkers that enter the part. They are looking for our members to support this booklet by placing ads. Ad price range from $100-$1,000. Your support will be appreciated. More information will be coming.
The La Crosse After Hours Club is looking for one host family for their exchange student, Eugene. Eugene is attending Central High School. They are looking for a family to take him around the holidays...December-April. For more information, please contact Bill Pritchard.
iFeed is a one-day event where over 50,000 dried meals are packed and boxed, ready for shipment to a country where children are hungry. It's also a one-day all-Coulee Region food drive to fill area food pantries. iFeed is a joint service project of the area Interact Clubs and the La Crosse Area Rotary Clubs as an extension of Rotary Lights Food collections. This event will be November 5th at Logan High School. Our club will sponsor two teams ($500) that will package the dried meals on November 5th. We will need 2 teams of 12 people. We are still short 6 team members. Please let Sarah Arendt know if you can volunteer on November 5th.
We are collecting food items....please bring your food items and drop them off at the registration table at Rotary. Support the Interact Clubs and help fill our food pantries.

Growing club membership, finding ways to enhance the image of the work of our clubs, and deepening member involvement in The Rotary Foundation are three critical themes facing our clubs. To think more about where your club is and where your club wants to be regarding these themes and to learn new ideas to strengthen your club, plan on attending the “One Rotary Summit.”

Anita will be selling greeting cards at our upcoming meetings.
Birthday, Wedding, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary, Congratulations, Note Cards and other cards will be available. All cards are unique and hand-made. Thank you cards are only $1.00, as are the note cards, which are blank inside. The regular cards are $2.00 and $3.00 each. Some cards are three for $5.00 and some three for $10. Anita donates all sales to the Rotary Works Foundation! Last quarter she donated $150 for the 3rd quarter card sales. Y-T-D sales are $600.00. Thank you to all who supports Anita's fundraiser for the Rotary Works Foundation.
Honorary Membership is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues. Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.
Excused Membershipis offered to members if the aggregate of the member’s years of age and years of membership in one or more clubs is 85 years or more, the member has been a member of one or more clubs for at least 20 years, and the member has notified the club's secretary in writing of the member’s desire to be excused from attendance and the board has approved. Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $70 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.
Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member. This was a criteria that our club had set not RI. This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently. You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.
