LAST WEEK AT ROTARY
Last week Mayor/Rotarian Tim Kabat spoke on the La Crosse Sister Cities.   La Crosse is fortunate to have Sister City relationships with seven cities around the world. These cities include Bantry, Ireland; Dubna, Russia; Epinal, France; Førde, Norway;Friedberg, Germany; Luoyang, China; and The Republic of Cameroon, Kumbo, West Africa.  Each of these relationships is unique and features cooperative efforts in such diverse activities as health care, education, sports, the arts, government agencies and public policy, business, and many others.   La Crosse's business activity along with the varied cultural backgrounds of the citizens has resulted in and environment that makes foreign visitors welcome and is supportive of a variety of cultural activities and events. Many of these events are supported and coordinated by the City’s International Committee.

Click here to read Tolerance Is But a Start by Lee Rasch - President, Western Technical College.   The Sister Cities program is not "government to government" or even "city to city"...it is really "people to people."

Honorary Membership  is offered to members who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals.  Honorary membership is the highest distinction that a club may bestow and should be conferred only in exceptional cases.  Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues.  Honorary members will continue to receive The Rotarian Magazine compliments of the club.

Excused Membership is offered to members whose age and number of years in Rotary total 85 years.  Excused Members will pay the quarterly dues of $67 and only for meals when they attend a meeting.

Membership Proposals....we will no longer ask for three references when you propose a new member.  This was a criteria that our club had set not RI.  This will help us process new members into our club more efficiently.  You can access the membership proposal form online, under the Club Information site page.

Foundation Quote for the Week

“We cannot think in impersonal terms about famine, or earthquakes, or loneliness.    What is famine? It is a young, distraught mother in a remote village, clutching to her emaciated breast a hungry, demanding child.    What is an earthquake? It is an old man sitting in a chair watching helplessly while the bricks rain down, the walls fall in and the windows shatter at his feet.   What is loneliness? It is an alcoholic on the sidewalk, deserted and afraid.”

Clem Renouf    Rotary President Elect 1987
