District Governor Dean McHugh was our guest speaker last week....Dean's home club is the Holmen Rotary Club. Click here to read Dean's bio. Dean's comment after our meeting..."I had my official District Governor visit and speech to La Crosse Downtown Rotary today. Nine years ago I did not join Holmen Rotary necessarily for friendship. However, looking around the La Crosse Rotary club of 170 today as I spoke reminded me how many of these fine folks I have been privileged to collaborate with over my time in Rotary and now call my friends. The majority of them I would not have met if not for Rotary. Rotary Friends and Rotary Ways as we continue to serve others locally and throughout the world."
McHugh will travel to each of the 63 district clubs and visited Seoul, South Korea, for Rotary’s International Convention. The district’s 2017 conference will be held in La Crosse on May 12-14....so save the weekend!

Rotary Youth Exchange A Step Toward WorldUnderstanding. The La Crosse area Rotary Clubs are looking for students who are interested in a unique experience of attending high school while living in another Rotary International country. Rotary International has a program which annually involves over 10,000 high school students living nearly a year in another country. Candidates must be sophomores to seniors in high school at the time of application and 16-18 1/2 years old when they leave for their assigned country. Applicants must rank in the upper half of their class.
How to apply. If you know of someone that is interested in this program for the 2017-18 school year, simply have them complete and return the application. Click here for application and more information. An informational meeting will be September 15, 2016, 6:30 pm at the Children's Museum, 207 5th Avenue, La Crosse. Preliminary application due, September 15, 2016. Local interviews will be September 26, 2016 and final application due October 12, 2016. District interviews will be held on November 6, 2016 in Baraboo.
The next two District 6250 Friendship exchanges, Nepal in October and Philippines early next year, are completely booked. But our district friendship exchange coordinator sends the following about the possibility for an India exchange in 2017:
I just received a message from Gujarat, India. They have six couples interested in traveling to our district in May and June of 2017. They would like us to travel to their district next year the last ten days of January, finishing on February 3-5 at their district conference. We can do this, since district funds are not needed to fund these trips. Travelers pay their air fare, first hotel night and perhaps rental cars. Hosts support the visitors with room, board, entertainment and perhaps transportation.
My question to this group is to see what you think of this exchange. If you would like to do it, spread the word and see if there is anyone in your club that would like to participate. Travelers can expect to travel from January 21 - February 5, 2017.
Arch Klumph’s idea for an endowment fund dedicated to “doing good in the world” planted the seed for The Rotary Foundation in 1917. Thanks to his vision and staunch advocacy, and the extraordinary generosity of Rotary members worldwide, that fund has become one of the world’s leading humanitarian foundations.
Learn about the people and events that have made our Foundation a powerful force for good. That one idea and an initial contribution of $26.50 set in motion a powerful force for good that has transformed millions of lives around the globe. View the timeline of the history of the development of what is now the Rotary Foundation.
Anita will be selling greeting cards at our upcoming meetings.

Please either talk to Anita or Lyn if you have any questions or would consider helping out. We only need a seller for September 15th...thank you to Roz Schnick who will sell on September 8th and 22nd. This will count for a makeup.
